The ICPP<ref>Not to be confused with the International Conference on Plasma Physics, organized by [http://www.waset.org/search?q=ICPP+plasma WASET]</ref> is sponsored by the [http://www.iupap.org International Union of Pure and Applied Physics].
 
The first ICPP congress (Nagoya, 1980) was the result of combining the fourth Kiev International Conference on Plasma Theory and the fourth International Congress on Waves and Stability in Plasmas.
Up to the 10<sup>th</sup> congress (2000), the denomination was "International ''Conference'' on Plasma Physics".
