A plasma consisting of freely moving positively and negatively charged particles has a natural tendency to shield net charges (or cancel DC electric fields). The effective shielding length is the Debye length, and can be derived from a simple two fluid model of the plasma. [1] [2]

λD=(ε0Tee2n0)1/2

where Te is given in energy units.
