Fast ions have been found to impact plasma confinement [1]. Understanding the underlying physics is an essential task for future fusion reactors where plasmas will be dominated by fast particle dynamics. In particular, non-linear excitations of zonal structures by fast particle driven modes are predicted to play an important role on the nonlinear dynamics of AEs and related transport [2]. The goal of the proposal is searching for zonal fields (i.e. magnetic fields) and zonal flows (i.e. radial electric fields) driven by fast particles in TJ-II.

The dual HIBP will be the key diagnostic tool, supported by magnetics probes

Required resources:

  • Number of plasma discharges or days of operation: 2 days
  • Essential diagnostic systems: dual HIBP
  • Type of plasmas (heating configuration): NBI scenarios
  • Specific requirements on wall conditioning if any:
  • External users: need a local computer account for data access: yes/no
  • Any external equipment to be integrated? Provide description and integration needs:

NBI scenarios with plasma reproducibility

Preferred dates: (format dd-mm-yyyy)
