Proposal title

Commissioning of the new helical arrays of magnetic coils

Name and affiliation of proponent

Enrique Ascasíbar, Álvaro Cappa, Pedro Pons

Details of contact person at LNF

Enrique Ascasíbar

Description of the activity

A new magnetic coil system consisting of two helical arrays of triple magnetic coils has been recently installed inside the TJ-II vacuum vessel [1]. It covers densely sector D of the device.

This proposal requests machine time with NBI plasmas in order to detect NBI-driven Alfvén modes, measure phase differences and figure out the corresponding toroidal mode numbers. A new magnetic coil system consisting of two helical arrays of triple magnetic coils has been recently installed inside the TJ-II vacuum vessel.

International or National funding project or entity

National funded project:

MICINN grant FIS2017-88892-P (FLOTURALTWEN Estudio experimental en TJ-II y W7-X)

Clave funcionaL 1P349

Description of required resources

Required resources:

  • Number of plasma discharges or days of operation: One day
  • Essential diagnostic systems: All the standard diagnostics
  • Type of plasmas (heating configuration): ECRH + NBI
  • Specific requirements on wall conditioning if any: Good density control (necessary condition for relatively long AEs). This request implies usually freshly conditioned wall (B+Li)
  • External users: need a local computer account for data access: yes/no
  • Any external equipment to be integrated? Provide description and integration needs:

Preferred dates and degree of flexibility
