Shafranov shift

The Shafranov shift[1] is the radial displacement Δ(r) of the centre of flux surfaces with minor radius r, induced by plasma pressure. Typically, the shift is linear [2] in beta (β), and it tends to be more important for tokamaks than stellarators, due to the fact that the magnetic configuration is largely or partly imposed externally in the latter case.
